The Gold Canadian Maple Leaf was first released in 1979 and is produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. Designed by Walter Ott to be minted in 24-karat pure gold (.9999% fineness) the Maple leaf is one of the purest regular issue gold coins in production today and was the first gold bullion coin to be minted in the .9999% fineness. No other gold coin in the world boasts a higher purity level.
The obverse of the coin depicts Queen Elizabeth II while the reverse depicts the maple leaf – a Canadian symbol known as early as the 1700’s.
